Composite Pole Climbing Spike
The composite pole climbing spike is designed for safe, ergonomic climbing on wooden and concrete poles in power and telecom network installations. Developed in close cooperation with Telia and ergonomic specialists, the design focuses on reducing long‑term strain on knees, hips, and back during repetitive climbing work.
The foot plate is manufactured from durable glass‑fiber‑reinforced plastic, providing high mechanical strength combined with low weight. The gripping arm is made of epoxy composite, while the straps consist of heavy‑duty polyester webbing to ensure reliable performance and long service life in demanding outdoor environments. Compared to traditional steel climbing spikes, the composite construction offers improved flexibility, easier movement, and increased comfort during ascent and descent.
The use of composite materials eliminates the risk of hidden cracks commonly associated with metal designs, significantly enhancing operational safety. The climbing spike has been tested in accordance with the Swedish Work Environment Authority regulations (AFS 2000:6) and complies with Swedish standards as well as utility requirements RST 2. According to these regulations, pole climbing spikes must be inspected annually and withdrawn from service after a maximum service life of 10 years.

Inspection and Maintenance

  • Daily inspection: Before each use, the user must check the climbing spikes for cracks, deformation, worn or loose spikes, and wear on straps and fasteners. The spikes should be tested with light rocking before climbing. If any irregularities are detected, the product must be taken out of service immediately.
  • Annual inspection: A thorough inspection must be carried out by a competent and experienced person. The climbing spikes must be properly cleaned prior to inspection.
