When stringing lines across busy roads or areas with underlying infrastructure, special safety measures are required in accordance with current regulations. EBR A 22:85 – Temporary protection during conductor stringing is a method guideline within the EBR framework, describing how to work safely when pulling pilot lines, conductors, aerial cables, or spiral cables across crossing objects such as existing power lines, roads, railways, and similar structures.
Line Protection – Road Crossings
A suitable method and the right equipment are essential to ensure that conductor stringing is carried out without risk of personal injury, equipment damage, or service disruption. To meet these requirements, we have developed ‘Line Protection 7204’ – a practical and compliant solution that also works effectively as a temporary cable support during electrical installations.
In brief, the system consists of:
- A number of carabiners used to mount the ‘Line Trolley 6810’, interconnected with straps, which are then transferred across to the opposite side along the support line after installation.
- When used for cable applications, the system is complemented with two ‘Line Trolleys 6711’, anchored to poles on either side. These trolleys absorb the majority of the pulling force, both during stringing and when guiding the cable down to the ground.
In summary, when working with overhead lines and aerial cables, ‘Line Protection 7204’ is an effective solution that ensures safe passage and controlled installation of temporary power lines.
